    Interests

I am a postdoctoral clinical research associate in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences working in the group of Professor Patrick Yu Wai Man. I am also an Ophthalmology resident in the East of England deanery. I am investigating disease variability in inherited optic neuropathies using high-throughput sequencing technologies, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics (“multi-omics”). These conditions are characterised by mitochondrial dysfunction leading to optic nerve degeneration and cause irreversible, severe visual loss in young adults. A major barrier to diagnosis and genetic counselling is the substantial inter-individual variation in disease severity, even among those with identical pathogenic variants. I hope to discover biomarkers of disease severity and identify novel therapeutic strategies for these individuals. My research work is supported by a BMA Foundation Dawkins and Strutt grant and a collaboration with the NIHR Bioresource.
