Dervila is the Strategic Manager of the Cambridge Neuroscience Interdisciplinary Research Centre and the Academic Network Lead for Cambridge NeuroWorks

George is a a world leader in bioelectronics and engineering innovative neural interface and is the scientific lead for Cambridge NeuroWorks.

Ben is the clinical lead for Cambridge NeuroWorks. His main role is to facilitate access to patients as early as possible to provide PPIE and to enable transition to clinical trials by helping with design and governance.

 

Timothy O’Leary – Engineering

Brain machine interfaces, causality, and cognitive maps

Timothy O’Leary is Professor of Information Engineering and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. His research uses concepts and methods from systems theory and control engineering to understand the brain. He trained in pure mathematics and obtained his PhD in biophysics and physiology at the University of Edinburgh. He then worked with Eve Marder as Swartz Theoretical Neuroscience Fellow in Brandeis University before starting his group in Cambridge in 2016. With an emphasis on biological control, his work spans disciplines in neuroscience, from cellular physiology and homeostasis to theory of learning, motor control, neural network dynamics and systems neuroscience.

Beyond the finger prick: Neurotechnology for metabolic control 

Dr Amparo Güemes is a Royal Academy of Engineering and Rosetrees Research Fellow at the Bioelectronics Lab, led by Prof George Malliaras. As a researcher, Amparo distinguishes herself in the field of metabolic treatments based on neuromodulation. The interdisciplinary nature of her work includes signal processing, modelling, bioelectronics and electrophysiology to develop advanced algorithms and neurotechnology to be integrated into a closed-loop platform aiming to improve metabolic control.

 

 

 

 

Paul Fletcher – Psychiatry

Video Games for Representation, Assessment and Intervention in Psychiatry

Paul Fletcher is Bernard Wolfe Professor of Health Neuroscience and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Trust as well as a Wellcome Investigator. He has collaborated with Ninja Theory, the Cambridge-based video game design studio, for 10 years and was part of the BAFTA-winning team that created games representing the experience of psychosis.

Next Generation Cell Replacement for Parkinson’s: Faster Safer Delivery & Chemogenetic Graft Regulation

Harry Bulstrode’s lab at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute focuses on neural stem cell biology in brain cancer and regeneration. As Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon he specialises in stereotactic surgery- including deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease, and cell replacement therapy as part of the upcoming TRANSCEND trial.

 

 

 

 

 

Valerie Voon – Psychiatry

Deep brain stimulation for addictions

Valerie is a Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Neuromodulation at the University of Cambridge and a Distinguished Professor at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Her research group has a two-fold focus: theories underlying self-control and repetitive behaviours influenced by emotions and development of novel neurostimulation techniques aiming towards intelligent neuromodulation for mental health. She leads the multicentre deep brain stimulation study for addictions in the United Kingdom. She led the Eastern Deep Brain Stimulation Think Tank and was the past President of the British Neuropsychiatry Association.
